    Another 61 headscratcher

    Hi Guys,

Just finishing up my 61 and ran into a question regarding the trunk latching system. There is a release spring next to the latch in the trunk. Mine does not look like any of the details shown in the tech books. In researching it I have found that there was a different release in the early 61 that was not used in the post Jan 23,61 thru 62 release systems. What I need to know is could anyone get a digital photo to me of what it is supposed to look like. I can't find an illustration anywhere. I have the spring but a little unsure as to is installation.

    Regards,

Jack, you must have the early spring assembly located on the left side of the car and most likely, 1 hole approx. 3/8" to start the spring, and 1 hole approx. 1/8" for the retainer screw. Look in Nolan Adams page 341 for an actual picture. Mine is the same but have never been able to find a correct retainer.

      Jack,

I have an early '61 with the spring on the left and a rubber bumper on the top of the spring. I recently sent a digital image to Dave Hietzman. If we can't find that one I may have the pic on my home computer. I'll check tonight.

        Hi Las and Peter,

You both are right on the money. You both have precisely described what I have. I have the spring with the rubber bumper on top but do not know what the retainer looks like. I will look in Nolen Adams book to see if there is an indication as to what it looks like. Las if I can locate one I will also try to find one for you. I have a friend that restores the C 1's. I had all I could do to stop him from drilling out the right hand side to install the standart late 61 /62 spring and retainer. He too is getting an education on the early 61. Thanks again. your help is very much appreciated.

              Jack,

I have seen the original retainer in a '61 but have not been able to locate one. Take a look at your female hood latch assembly on the fire wall and the retainer which holds the cable in place. That is a good substitute.

                Las,

Thanks for the suggestion. Peter or maybe someone else will come up with a photo for one. I'm hoping I have it in all the stuff left off when thay took my car apart for the restoration. If I see one I may be able to locate my original. I'm not giving up on that yet. Peter my be able to do that for us.

                  Jack,

I have three good pics for you - can't load them on the website (too large). Send me an email address via a PM and I'll forward the pics to you.
