Of course the paint won't 'pass' judging inspection... The surface characteristics of paint vs. galvanization are very obvious. Expect to loose 20% on originality for violating the Finish portion of the 5-axis universe that governs originality points during judging (Finish, Date, Installation, Configuration and Completeness).

      Hi Joe,
Jack is right about the plating/paint issue.
The Eastwood paint (Tank Tone) gives a nice look, but's quite different than the original finish.
Also, the paint obscures the darkened weld seam that's seen on original tanks.
      Here's my painted tank.
      Regards,
      Alan

You won't have to tighten anything an extra 20%.

            Hi Rich,
I started with one of those too! Even with a pretty ughly tank you can often see some of the original plating which survived under the straps in some places.
I was also lucky to be able to re-use the hoses, clamps, and the seperator.
Some old stuff cleans up pretty nice.
            Regards,
            Alan
