    65 power antenna

Anybody know if there is a way too lower the power antenna mast down with out removing the antenna assy from the car? Car is unrestored and I did'nt want to tamper with the patina of the antenna, at this point I just want too lower to get the car under my lift.

    Thanks
    Mike

    Re: 65 power antenna

Hi Mike. I recently went through the same issue with my 65' power antenna. I tried pushing it while someone else hit the power button, I tried turning it slightly as well but nothing worked. You can get it out while fully extended if your careful. I did. Start by disconnecting the battery. Remove the tail pipe extension, remove the fiberglass valance panel below the bumper to give yourself some room to work. It's pretty straight forward. Disconnect muffler from mount, swing slightly aside and prop with a block of wood. Disconnect antenna lead-in and motor electrical connections at quick disconnect at antenna base. Remove lower motor mounting bolt. Slide motor assembly inboard off of the bracket and out of the vehicle.
These are the instructions that I got off of this site and they worked for me. If you don't remove the valance your going to make your job more difficult. Once out you can work on the antenna, or replace the antenna and store your car.
I still haven't replaced mine but the car is covered and stored and driveable. Someone else may have a better suggestion but this worked for me. Good luck .
