    Carb date - timing

A question on correctness of date for a Carter AFB 3461S on a '63:

    Car assembly - Jan 21
    Engine Assembly - Jan 2

Would a carb date of BA3 (2nd version, Jan '63) be appropriate for this car? Or, should it be a Dec or earlier? Anyone know the timing on these?

    thanks in advance

    Mel

    Re: Carb date - timing

Carbs were installed at St Louis, so as long as the carb is prior to the production date of the car it should work. Essentially it is somewhat disassociated from the engine date.

Thnx Bill.. I assume your comment suggests the BA3 would be acceptable, even though its not dated specifically prior to car assembly? Would you also suggest an M2 carb (December) would be more correct, or is there really no way to define which is more correct?

Also... there are some suppliers offering reproduction stamped aluminum carb ID tags (reportedly same as original, and made on original stamping equip)... are these legit? And will they/do they pass NCRS inspection?

      Thnx

I don't recall you giving the vin of your car so an assembly date could be defined, normal (more or less) for a common engine (250-300hp) would be 2-3 weeks, if the car was assembled in the last week of the year, anything could be possible as inventory was cleaned out, but 2-3 weeks before the car was assembled would be a good guide. As far as the tag, a replacement is "legit" as far as restoration goes. I have no comment on the accuracy of a particular tag without seeing it.
