72 Rally Wheel Paint

Judging guide says "bright silver" for the 71 and 72 rally wheels. I know that the paint can be purchased from the online stores.

1. Does Anyone know of a brand of paint that matches the recommended color that can be purchased at the well known hardware/auto stores that would work? I live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

2. I assume that the paint would be considered semi-gloss?

The Judging Guide specifies the color for 71-72 as "bright silver". Is the Argent silver mix that you posted really just bright silver? I understand from previous posts that the Argent silver color varied over the years.

And the green that you mentioned was for what?

Michael,
You list both Ditzler and DuPont numbers. Am I correct in assuming use either/or not both? What does "R-M at 114" mean? Thanks for posting this.

I would guess Rinshed-Mason Acrylic Tint #114. R-M was/is a well known "third" paint company for automobiles, etc. I believe they are currently owned by BASF.

Paint codes posted are for argent silver lacquer used on ralley wheels. For certain years, the wheels have a green tint to them. Check the judging guide for specifics.

R-M is Rinshed-Mason.

I believe the correct PPG formula code for Argent Silver is 8568. Beginning in 71 there was no green tint added.
