    Headlight support rod and bracket

I am installing parts in the front valence area including the rods and the small right angle brackets which support the headlight area. My original rods were black but the small right angle brackets had no color. Should these brackets be painted or left natural color.

    Jack,

I don't know whether they were painted or not, but I would also like to find out. Are you referring to the right angle bracket listed on UPC 11-13-B3, Item 8, #3830917?

      Jack,

the brackets were dip painted semi gloss black, then installed before prime and paint on the car, So they would have over spray from the priming and painting and finally they were part of the black out treatment to cover the prime and paint overspray. If you look on untouched cars the 2 phillips head screws that attach the valance to the bracket are painted body color.

        Thank you Rich.
It's a minor detail but isn't it great to spend one's time tracking down details.
Another point that I won't lose.
        Thanks again,
        Jack

It's the small L-shaped bracket that attaches to the bottom of the radiator support.
          See Rich's reply.

Re: Headlight support rod and bracket for a 63

              Guys,
I am also re-installing my headlight support brackets and have a question on how they are atached. I was told that they were held in place by the two screws into the upper nose rail, and that they were also bonded to the inside of the nose that they fit into.
I also looked at a top flight (regional) car and his were not glued that I could see (they might have been), but his restorer rivited them to the inside edge of the nose fiberglass.
Just to add more confusion, I have a Chevy Part and Accessory catalog for 53 thru 72 Corvettes, and it olny shows the two bolts that hold them to the upper nose rail.
Can any one tell me what is correct?
              Thanks,
              Pete Loscalzo

                Pete -

That's correct - the bracket-to-inside of nose bond is shown in your Assembly Manual in UPC 12, sheet A2.00 and A3.00 as Bond "G". A typical section through Bond "G" is shown in UPC 0, sheet 4.00.

You just thought the headlight ends were rivited, because the bonding strip is rivited to the end plate and the assembly is then bonded. The rivets show on the bottom.
