1960 leaf spring marking

I'm rebuilding the leaf springs on my 60. Tonight I got the drivers side apart and there appears to be some white or silver paint along the inside edge of the top spring near the front bushing. I can see remnants of this paint near the center also. The spring also appears to be silver where it attached to the spring perch

I thought that the spring leafs were supposed to be all black.

Tom, Top spring was silver the rest were black.

My 59 top spring was silver on a unmolested car. It was, however painted with chassis black over the silver. It disolved with gasoline, tar based I suppose.

Top spring is silver with blackout over. This is a 61 in this photo.
