Front Nose Emblem - No Dum Dum??

That is what is written on my judging sheet. What exactly does that mean? Thanks.

    Hi Kirk
The stamped nuts that hold onto the 2 pins. The original factory nuts should be filled with a dark puddy or dum dum. When the nut is screwed onto the pins the nut tightens to the fiberglass and the excess puddy will oz around the nut.
You will see this type of dum dum around your heater box fiberglass mounted on the firewall.

    Hope this helps.

      Kirk,
My opinion, a judge that can see inside the two holes where the nose emblem is fastened and discern the presence of dum dum under the nuts is just not reasonable.

Can you buy dum dum somewhere? I have some of that tar-like stuff that you find around the AC pipes and some of the holes in the firewall, but I'm assuming dum dum is something a little different.

I bought a package many years ago (or something just like it) from an auto parts store. It came as a rope material all wound up in package about 8" long x 2" wide. Still have it, or whats left of it. Believe it was 3M.

Use of the material helps seal against moisture I guess, but like what has been said, it oooses out around the nut and that makes it visable.

Kirk, 3M ( 08578 part no.)makes strip calk that you can use, if you know someone at a body shop, maybe he has a few pieces. instead of buying a box.

I agree. That's taking judging to a ridiculous level.

You can buy a box of 3M thru Eastwood. Last box I bought was about 5 years ago and less than $20.

Will last you a lifetime just keep the box in a freezer bag after you open.

I also use it around wall sockets and switch plates in the shop to stop drafts and water lines to the shop sink to keep out mice.

                    Kirk,
I have a box that I will never use up. If you send me your address I will send you a couple lengths of the rope caulk.

...I like using chewing gum-plus the stickiness of the gum at first attracts dust giving it that "aged, original" look.

...just don't used "flavored" gums that are green, pink, etc. An absolute deduct!!!
