    63 Steel Wheel repair

The lug nut holes in my 63 wheels have become elongated or too large as a result of over tightening them. I'm sure they can be repaired but I just can't find anyone in the Northeast that provides this service.

Has anyone else had this repair done on their wheels, if yes, where?

    Thanks

    Harry,

Back in 1998 I bought 4 almost new "take off" original GM S10 alloy wheels w/tires for my 1998 S10 from a place called New England Wheel in Hampton Falls. They also sold reconditioned wheels as well as repaired wheels but I know absolutely nothing about the quality of their work.

David, they went out of business a few years back. Lost the business to a fire.

      Thanks

        Harry,

Tip tip of the nut contacts the drum before the lug hole? Until you find a wheel repair shop, maybe this as a temporary solution......Shaped washers behind the lug nuts.

Using a press and sacrificial lug nuts, bend thick SAE washers to form the correct ID bevel. You'd need a round backup object for the press to get the correct conical shape OD for the wheel lug hole. 5 for each wheel to keep them balanced.

I've also seen where people grind the backside of the nut to reduce the depth of the nut, but I'm not sure I like that idea.
