Just thought I would share this experience from yesterday with all of you.
My friends '61 clutch rod bushing had destroyed itself so we were replacing it on the car.
Everything went fine replacing the bushing until we got to the point of putting the gorilla spring back on.
I found a tech tip that explained using washers to space the coils of the spring to lengthen it in order to re-install it. see picture.
Although installing the washers is a bit scary we figured out the process and it worked perfectly to lenthen the spring enough to be able to connect both ends. Then depressing the clutch pedal allowed us to hold it in place and remove the washers one by one, thus relieving tension on the spring. The only addition we came up with was using a coat hanger wire thru the washers to help hold them in place as we added more washers. Otherwise the washers fell out as we added more down the spring.
We also used a tech tip to install the bushing using correctly sized sockets and a threaded rod arrangement that worked perfectly as well.
So many helpful tips and discussions on this web site for us "rookies".
Just wanted to say Thanks again for all the help in the process.
