Found out my windshield is not original :(

I finally got around to documenting the dates codes on my glass, turns out my windshield is not original after all. It doesn't have the same logo as the side windows and the date code is very different, it ends in LSG.

My side windows are dated 2HV for July 1956 so it looks like I need a windshield to match. Any idea how far behind windshields dates were from vehicle production dates in September of '56? Can someone with a August/September build 1956 tell me their windshield date code please?

IF I can't locate an original, who provides the absolute most precise reproduction that will pass judging without a hitch?

    Thanks!

    Hello Alexander,

the LSG date code you noted is actually the brand of glass, it stands for Lear Siegler Glass....was made probably in the 80-90's. There would be a E W or S in the logo which tells you what plant...if you give me the numbers and letters I can date code for whatever that is worth....as a recommmendation on a glass provider...Libbey Owens Ford were bought by Pilkington. They have a classic glass company who sand blast etches original codes and LOF logos, they also have original glass blue prints....here is the website info http://www.pilkington.com/the+americ...s/default1.htm

The Dept Of Transportation mandates that all replacement glass have the plant code etched on the windshield (this was not the case in the 60-70's)....I think all C1-C3 glass that has LOF etched logos are made at the Mexacali Mexico Pilkington plant DOT 177 now days, DOT 15 is still around that you see on C4s but they only make current model OEM, if you look real close you will see that along the edge where the rubber gasket would cover it, so like tires and other DOT markings, you can date a part from it....the glass used today is completely different then those original parts....float glass versus drawn glass, much thinnere today than past days and the PVB interlayer stretching is different. repops are easily detected by the windshield police.
