According to my 4th edition 63-64 TIMJG, my 64 coupe's frame is supposed to be without gussets, however it DID have rusted-thru no hole gussets that were replaced with gussets that have a somewhat triangular drain hole?-improved design? My 365HP car 's build date is May1,1964. Please clarify. Thank you.

Re: Reinforcement gussets in frame
Jack: First I assume you are referencing the added frame section that is at the rear corners below the seats by Body Mount #3. These are shown in the AIM at Section 1 (Mounting) sheet 2.00 and again at Section 2 sheet 1.00
Looking at Section 2 sheet 1.00 notice the frame number changes from 3843361 to 3864676 on 4-22-64 (+ - on these dates) My understanding is that's the approximate date one would expect to see the "gussets" From the original 64's I have seen these gussets did show up on an April car, but have not seen any on an earlier car including my Mar64.
If you expect a problem in judging take a copy of the AIM as proof that your car should have the gusset. As for the hole the AIM shows it as round however once the washers and nuts are installed don't think any one can see the hole so you should be OK. Now if you are a nit picker braze the triangular area and make it round.- Top
