Unlike John, I HAVE seen a whopping THREE cases where the water pump's shaft slipped relative to the drive hub and/or the impeller. But, that's an atypical situation and the rebuilder I use will NOT reuse a pump shaft once it's been pressed. Others DO rebuild pumps and reuse the original shaft...

Any rebuilder that reuses a bearing/shaft assembly is a rebuilder to be ABSOLUTELY AVOIDED. In my opinion, whenever a waterpump is disassembled the bearing/shaft assembly should be replaced. These things are not even very expensive.

Higher coolant flow rate improves the heat transfer through the radiator.

The old myth about coolant moving too fast through a radiator does not hold water. Why is it that no one ever makes the same argument for the air flow? I never hear anyone say that you should decrease the air flow through the radiator to cool the engine better.
