    327/300 Spark Plugs

Are Autolite 86 spark plugs a good choice for a 327/300?
    I think the conversion of Autolite 86 = AC-R45s ?
But OEM plugs for a 327/300 plugs should be AC44

Ralph, I have a 327/350 in my '67 and the AC 44's and 45's were just too cold for the engine to run properly. Several members of the other Corvette site recommended that I try Autolite 295's. I installed a set and the car has never run better, FWIW. PT

Ralph, I run Champion, IIRC the number is RN12YC, I'll check tonight.
But everyone will have their own opinion on which spark plug or oil or cam or air filter is THE best.

          Ralph,
For what it's worth, I had a friend that I bought a 365/327 from in 1971 and he said they put the car it was in on a dyno and ONLY changed plugs so that they would know what to use at the strip.

He said champion did good till the plating wore off. Autolite did the best and AC came in last.

Autolite went thru a # change and our local auto parts do not know what the equilivent # is but I still use them because of his test results.

If you're not concerned about loss of judging points due to the "wrong brand", the NGK B4 and Denso W14-U are closest to the NON-RESISTOR AC 45. The AC 44 was OE, but is too cold for normal driving. AC heat range "5" or equivalent is best for ALL OE Corvette engines in normal driving, including extended freeway trips at up to 80-85 MPH cruise speed.

Even at high cruise speed, all Corvette engines are operating under relatively low load, so they can get away with relatively hot plugs that will stay clean in low speed driving.

Now, if you want to spend all day hot lapping a racetrack, you need a colder plug, but that's another story.

When I cross reference the spark plugs it appears the Autolite 86 spark plug is equal to AC R45S resistor plug and the Autolite 295 is equal to the AC 45 non-resistor plug.
Reason for asking this question was that I was given 16-Autolite 86 spark plugs. I'm not concerned with being NCRS correct for street driving.
