    67 300HP Distributor Question?

Initial advance is set at 6 degrees, giving 22 degrees of advance (initial plus centrifugal). I have experimented with different springs but only see variation in the RPM where full advance is achieved. The weights appear to be original (aged the same as top of mainshaft) and there is no bushing installed to limit centrifugal advance. I have installed a new vacuum advance canister (Napa ECH VC-1802, stamped B22), which gives a combined mechanical and vacuum advance of 39 degrees.

If I should be getting 30 degrees of centrifugal advance, what is limiting my distributor? Could it be the configuration of the weights? The distributor has been disassembled, cleaned, small parts (washers etc.) replaced and no binding or excessive wear is evident. The car seems to accelerate and run just fine.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Agree with Bill. Many of these parts are not from 1967.

There are a few folks in the Driveline and in Hemmings that rework/rebuild distributors and have the parts and test equipment. Need to contact one of them.

                        Michael, Duke,

Here's some pictures of an original 67 300 distributor with the top cams. Known to me to be the original from my 67, before I changed the shaft for the bunged up tach drive. This is a 30d centrifugal advance distributor really untouched:

The weights and top cam on the shaft sure look different from Michael's pictures.

I got a replacement shaft for the bunged up crossgear that looks just like the original as far as the top cam goes. I then put the original weights and springs back on.

                        The thing works perfect now.
