    wheel studs

I have a wheel stud question for the 60 with HD brakes and suspension, were they different that standard studs? I have one front that is broke and one rear... The HD brakes are not on the car at the moment and it has different backer plates, since the car was driven on allot of sand beaches and stone roads back in the day. Bad for them scoops and deflectors if you know what I mean... Anyhow years ago I broke one and it was a simple process to just go to napa or parts store and match it up. Now what I am finding is I can't get a thin enough knurl or spline that will match up, the studs are the fatter backs and the treads go all the way to the spline... I see some older chevy truck studs that look close and have yet to order them. I also now cannot find BLACK ones vs. the bright metal ones at most parts stores, anyone know were a good sorce would be. the seem to brake as I am sure the American Racing coke bottles are not the tightest setup and stresses them move than the acorn lugs, I can clearly see this.. Seems to happen to my 82's also can see thread distortion on them near the hubs... I have read some articles that say NO GREASE on them or even antiseeze, special the rock crawlers it makes sense you don't want the rim moving, or the studs getting loose. I like to grease the backs on my 82 rims as some of the them can be real real stuck on the hub!...

    thanks

How can I tell if I have originals the CORVETTE mail orders are not the right spline or knurl mine is real fine the size is correct and all, one is longer length. Do you or anyone know the back markings for correct late 60 vin...

Out of the 2 they sent I have the shorter ones... the stud head that I have is the larger one not the smaller if that makes sense.

black bottom is the one from the car NOTE the small splines and length of them. the top 2 silver are from either Ecklers or Corvette Amercia for the car they showed 2? the one above the broken is what I found at local parts store and we measured it with a caliper and is closer than the other 2 plus the splines look better/closer but I am not happy with the color and the lenght on the splin.

        Follow up -

The HD brakes had the front fins on the back of the HUBS? so I should be able to see if there are rivet holes? I am thinking the hubs may have been changed. There are no dust caps on them and they look real real beefy, I know I still have ball bearing bearings as I redid them a while back. And I know the rear has the original in it.. but how would one have removed the fins, pull the axles? That may anwser some questions as to what was done.... I know the thread size is 20 7/16 is that correct?

There should be a law passed any car or auto mods must be listed on the lid of the trunk.... hehehe

Early 1960 Corvettes used front wheel studs that were 1-35/64" in length. Later 1960 Corvettes used front wheel studs that were 1-9/16" in length.

All 1960 Corvettes used rear wheel studs that were 1-31/64" in length.

The above-referenced lengths are the OVERALL length, from the top of the head to the bottom of the threads.
