Trip Odometer Reset Cable

Installed a trip odometer reset cable on my 1970 it functions fine until I place the drivers side panel in place then it would work. if i pull the panel out a little bit it works fine. Its hard to see up there so I assume that it it hitting something and binding the cable. Does anyone have any tips on properly routing this cable. It would be greatly appreciated as my hands are all cut up.

Hi Les,
I'm not positive the bracket is the same in 71 as your 70.
I had a similar problem though on my 71.
I ended up installing the re-set cable in the speedo housing, and the bracket, (also holds the left-side courtesy light), on the dash pad. Then installing the pad BEFORE putting the cable through the bracket's hole and installing the nut.
Perhaps this allows the cable to find a more 'natural' path so it doesn't develop a 'kink'.

My wife helped me on that, she suggested to go to the dollar store and by a hand held mirror. I did that as i was placing the dash pad in position and saw that the cable had to be routed through or in between the supports. Now it working fine.
