    1963 Heater Box Survey

I'm looking to determine if the LH heater outlet was used for all 1963 cars or did it start being installed sometime after production started.

Please look at picture HEAT A and see if your heater box has this rectangular cut. If yes, please look at picture HEAT B and see if you have the outlet screwed over the cut to direct heat to the drivers feet.

If yes or no, please let me know and if you don't mind please let me know you VIN sequence number. A Private Message (PM) is OK.

My car is 1335X and I have the rectangular cut and the outlet.

    Thanks

    Harry,

My 63 is #031xx built second week November 62 and it's the first design box with a rectangular cut out.

The Y duct was gone and I had to locate one along with the snout that attaches to the rectangular hole.

Ed, Does either car have the small tube attached to the end of the heater box. If not does it have a hole where the tube would screw to?

        Thanks, Joe

Harry; I am glad you started this tread.
            My Sept '62 build date has the cutout in the heater box;
but I have no snout piece. When I went to the AIM, the snout does not show up in the heater section; only the A/C section. So; Let us see what some early cars have.
            Regards
            Bill

              Re: 1963 Heater Box Survey

Thank you for the input so far, let's hope for more.

I have the early design box in my car with the Micky Mouse lever system. I have a spare box dated 4 29 63 that is the second design box (late 63 to 67). I bought the spare from a seller in Hawaii that was adding Vintage Air. He sent me the box, defrost duct, Y duct and the LH outlet/snout. I asked him if all four parts were on his car and he said yes.

So the change in 63 to the second/later design box happened at the end of April or started in May of 1963, just a guess.

Ed, so you car 2XXX, early 63 has the outlet/snout!, correct?

              Cheers

The only reference to the small snout I can find in the AIM is in the A/C section. There is no reference to it in the regular heater section???

Joe, I saw that also. But I can't tell from the AIM if the part is added or deleted due to the additional A/C duct work. Yet I've seen the outlet/snout on many non-A/C cars.

Harry, I took a look at my 110674 car and there is no snout,or cut out in the box.

                        Harry,

I have a sept. 24th built car serial number 414. It has the cutout as per your picture but no snout. No evidence I can see of a hole for the attachment of said snout.

I'm attaching five pictures so you can see how the outlet/snout attaches. It essentially uses the same screw as the Y Duct.

                            1) side view with hole
                            2) side view with screw
                            3) side view with Y duct
                            4) outlet/snout
                            5) side view with Y duct and outlet/snout

The one side screw holds both parts, the Y duct and the outlet/snout. I've circuled the hole/screw in red.

Sorry about some of the blurry pictures.
