Not sure why I would want an EPROM and don't know what an memcal is...

Pat, those are the programs that GM installed on there computers, they were changed out when they had a driveabilty problem that could not be fixed by the routine adjustments, I replaced many when I was a GM tech. they put into the top of computers circuit board.

EPROM: Electronic Programmable Read Only Memory. These are the black chips with the legs, these hold the .bin file the ECU reads.

MEM-CAL. This is the blue/brown (depending on year) housing which contains the EPROM and CAL-PAK (depending on year). The CAL-PAK is the knock circuitry. Because of the CAL-PAK being VERY engine specific, you MUST have the correct MEM-CAL for your EXACT engine, once you have that you can flash any .bin file you with onto the EPROM. The CAL-PAK is hard wired into the MEM-CAL and you can't swap this easily at all. I like to replace the EPROM chips with EEPROM chips so I can erase them via USB and not a UV light (which takes hours).

Long story short, NEVER store these with the sun can reach them either
