... I passed my performance verification with my 1985 on Friday afternoon at Wildwood. When I think of where that car was when it came off that open trailer in March 2004, I am stunned at even attempting, much less passing a performance verification.
There are so many folks (and please forgive me if I've left you out) but just a few of NCRS folks (in alphabetical order) who have contributed directly to my success are Tom Barr (so welcoming back at our first flight judging in Wildwood in 2004), Jack Brown, Joe Ciaravino, John Keane (my motivation for making a serious attempt at a performance verification), Jim Loughlin, Dave Mognoni, Frank Paschal, Jim Steumpfle (of County Corvette), and John Veen. The constant encouragement from so many others in the hobby has been, of course, wonderful.
Bob Zimmerman deserves much credit for his immense commitment in time and effort to bring my 1985 up from a fairly reliable top flight car to a reasonable car to even attempt a performance verification in. My car spent many months up at Bob and Sharon's "Corvette hospital", though I think there may have been a few times that Bob wished he was working on one of those more refined later C4s.
During both my last minute withdrawal from the Gettysburg Regional and during this successful attempt, Greg Cue has been a great help, both with practice tests and with much electrical and electronics help.
As he heads home to California, Dave Perry deserves a special acknowledgement for all he has done to help, especially his 1985-specific knowledge: so valuable as I tried to figure out what was "normal" for my car.
My national team leader Allen Tremain has been endlessly patient and engaged with me. He has now knows my car perhaps a little better than he'd like to, but he makes a trying experience as painless as possible, even as I used my 15 minute fix in the first 10 minutes of Friday's performance verification.
Finally, a very special thanks to my wife Ivelis. I know (and am often reminded) that I am very lucky that she is so involved in our crazy hobby. However, that very involvement (and the knowledge that comes with it) meant that she understood what a attempting a performance verification would entail with this particular car. Still, she has been endlessly supportive and positive as I have gone through this perhaps most challenging of all NCRS tests.
