    OEM Glass

Called OEM glass today to order some glass today and they said they are not doing glass anymore . They refered me to Pilkington classic which is where they got their glass. Has any one dealt with them?

If OEM Glass is not doing glass anymore, then what are they "doing"?

Since Dale Smith passed his family has sold the rights to repairing 65-66 power antenna's and only concentrates on Dale's passion. Restoring old Farm Tractors.

Yes, I have used Pilkington Glass as most Glass shops use Pilkington. Very economical compared to dated glass that was available from OEM Glass.

        Re: OEM Glass

Joe L. they said they are making for I. H. Tractors. Joe R. since Chuck at OEM said they were getting their glass from Pilkington I would assume that the quality of their products is the same. I need all the glass for my 69 . both doors have been replaced and are scratched pretty bad . The windshield was broke. I have been looking for original glass but cant find any clean side glass. I have searched the TDB and know I am probably going to lose some points but I dont have many options . Any suggestions? Thanks Brad

Great service and price! Just received my 67 windshield on time as promised and was protected with foam. Would highly recommend them!

Thanks AL, how does the windshield compare to original? How do you think it would do in judging? Thanks Brad

Brad, can't say for sure, you would be better posing that to a mid-year judge. i know I will take a small deduct for it being tinted and not the exact shade of green, which is riduculous, when original cannot be obtained. That's the main problem with NCRS, they border on riduculous at times!! Other than that, the thickness and the logo seem OK. From other responses from previous postings, there seems to be approval from the judging family. Again, check with a national level judge, if planning to go national or regional.

I'm with you, Al. It is ridiculous that NCRS upholds the factory standard. I think when parts become difficult to find or if they are routinely over, say, $100.00, NCRS should not have a standard at all. That way it becomes easy to get a Top Flight and no one is left out. I also believe that in sports, from pee wee league all the way to the pros that every player should get equal playing time. After all, don't want to hurt anybody's feelings.

                Sincerely,

                Mark

Mark, that is not what I'm saying. Not all repo parts are created equal as we all know & should not be judged as equal. Maybe in the near future, man will invent a time machine (which may have already been done) and we can all travel back to the 60's & obtain our exact parts. Equal playing time for middle, high , college, minor & pro-- I think not. No winning or losing teams in recreation or T-ball ? NO, NO .Let them all play equally at this age and may the best team win. Keep parents and their opinions in the stands. My opinion. Nuff Said!

If it was easy to top flight because the car is sub standard, it would make the NCRS unnessasary and un-needed. You could then just as well put Volkswagon parts on it.

Al, I have checked with a couple of national judges one says corvette central( which OEM said buys from them) or paragon ( i dont know who their supplier is ) the other judge was non commital. I spoke to Paragon today and of course they said thier glass is " a very very high quality reproduction". Pilkington wants a drawing of the LOF date code so they can copy it . I dont know which way to go. Thanks Brad

                        Re: OEM Glass

OEM was the originator of the date coded reproduction glass (about 1980 or so). CCentral, Paragon, everyone at one time, sold their glass. Pilkington is the successor to LOF glass and can do a very good job date coding the glass. I used to visit the shop occassionally as see them packaging glass for drop shipment sold by other vendors.

All the repro glass will take a hit for the tint banding as all the glass blanks have that banding.

I believe it was John Wooden, who coached UCLA to 88 straight men's basketball wins and 10 titles, who told his players something like "we're going to relentlessly pursue perfection. We'll never capture it, but in the process we will achieve excellence."

That's what I think of when I think of "the standard" in NCRS. You will never match it 100%, but you'll end up with one hell of a car trying to. JMHO

If the glass has the LOF logo on it I believe it ultimately comes from Pilkington. They own the rights to the LOF name.

I've ordered glass from Paragon in the past and it was drop shipped from Auto City Classics and came in a Pilkington box.
