First time I saw wheels like that was when the Airline I worked for was using them on baggage carts back around 2002. They went to this design after the inflatable tires used on the carts had a very short life due to flats and a high wear rate. No flats probably save money in the long run.

Lets see would they work on the Airplanes we serviced they sure would be lighter.

Those were being touted by either Michelin or Continental with a bunch of P.R. showings about five years ago, and they faded quietly into the background shortly thereafter.

I have a Popular Science magazine circa 1996 that shows that design of tire. Very old idea that never took off, just like the hubless wheel...
