Fawn '62 webbing from Doc Rebuild?

    Hi,
I wanted to order fawn beige seat belt webbing from Doc Rebuild for my '62, but they insist that they must mail a sample first before accepting my order?
I have no webbing to compare with, and have never seen good original, has anyone bought fawn webbing from them before and was it OK?

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Paul,

There are many sources for 4 bar webbing used on 62s. That said, most are not correct. Modern day webbing is noticably thinner than the old school webbing and the edge binding has a different weave. Jet Airliners are full of this stuff. I've never seen what the Doc is selling, but I imagine that providing the sample is their way of shifting the responcibility of determining "correctness" to your back rather than theirs.

I'd suggest taking the sample and posting a picture of it here for evaluation by the experts.

Talk about coincidence Tracy, as you were posting here I was sending you a PM on another forum!
Doc says his stuff is four panel nylon in the correct original thickness, but because I have nothing to compare it with, and because of a looming Canadian postal strike for the sample, I was hopping that someone here had bought it from him before and could comment.

      Thanks,

      Paul

        Paul,

Have you spoken with these guys? They also sell seatbelt webbing and get good reviews from what I have seen posted here and elsewhere.

I have a sample of an original 62 fawn belt. It has been exposed to the elements and attempted to be cleaned so a lot of color is gone. One of the ends is in the best shape and the thickness measures about 0.075 inch. I measured the thickness of some other 62 belts that I have and got a range of 0.070 to 0.080 thickness depending on age, wear, stiffness, etc. I measured the thickness of the webbing on a set of belts restored for my 66 El Camino that have similar web appearance and measured only .065 inch thickness. They do seem thinner than my originals. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the great feedback guys. I had ordered samples from the Doc and Snake-Oyl, I'll wait to see what they send.

                All the best,

                Paul
