I have two 3747042 ex manifolds with different size casting numbers. The one is a little larger and very clear and the other being smaller is clear but not as distinct or easy to read. The larger is dated K9 and the smaller one is dated J25. Is there a difference in the application of these two manifolds namely in which year car they were used? Photo #2 is the larger one.

I don't know if these differences imply different period original usage for the manifolds. However, these manifolds were produced from different foundry patterns. One of them was pattern #28 and the other pattern #21. That, alone, could account for the differences in the font size. Very often, this sort of feature will vary from pattern-to-pattern.
These manifolds were produced during whatever period that their respective patterns were in use and, likely, this was an "overlapping" period. Just when that period was I have no idea. I kind of doubt anyone does.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
