    1960 tach cable routing

AIM shows tach cable being routed through the firewall on the pass side. When we picked this car up, it is routed through the firewall near the speedo cable. There is a hole in the pass side firewall, but it is plugged.

Which is correct? Car was built in May of 60.

The cable has the correct end with the spark plug division text on it.

    Thanks,

    Tom

Tom, Interesting post as one way to spot a real deal hi-hp fuel car without looking at anything else is the hole in the firewall for the tach cable.
Does your car have the original engine in it? What is the suffix. John

if it is the original 283, 1x4, the tach cable would have been routed through the passenger side firewall. The entire cable/housing could have been removed to replace a broken cable and it is easier to route it across the engine block versus crawling under the dash and threading it through the clips under the dash.

        John,

My car is a base 283/230 with the original engine. No high hp here, although the car was built with 4.56 gears, go figure.

I suppose somewhere along the way, the tach cable was replaced and re-routed. I have most of the receipts for work done to the car over the years. I'll have to browse through them and see if there is one for a new cable.

          Joe,

That is more then likely what happened.

          Thanks
