    '65 Battery connection help needed

Car is a 65 smalll block coupe with no power or AC; battery on passenger side. I am installing a Restoration battery with cut-off switch (knob type on negative terminal). This area of car was previously "restored" by prior owner; hence my questioning everything.

    1) Does the positive terminal go toward engine or toward fender?
    2) Does the positive spring ring sit flush; it barely goes on?
    3) If the negative terminal inboard is correct; the cut-off interferes with the heater hoses.

Any help and advice greatly appreciated
    Thanks

    Phillip,

I have seen posts on here about problems with the knob type switch. I would recommend switching to the knife blade type while there's still time. It gives a visual indication - open circuit or connected. You can get one at NAPA for about $40.

Per AIM, +ve is inboard; that positions the battery poles on the firewall side of the battery lengthwise centerline (row of battery caps).

        Phil -

        1. Positive terminal is inboard, negative is outboard.

        2. Positive cable terminal fits flush on the positive post.

        3. Negative terminal is outboard, near the fender.

Both terminals are on the firewall side of the battery.

          John,

Does this apply to a '66 SB, non-AC also? I'm away from home and my AIM.

          Thanks

          DB

            Wayne and John
Thank you BOTH! Previous owner installed the battery cables, on both motor and battery sides, reversed. Yet another detail to correct. One step forward and two steps back.

              Dave -

Yes, it does - all '63-'67 non-A/C batteries were oriented/configured the same way.
