I have two #2268 Generators have identical main housings but different end housings. One has the cast end housings which is correct per the judging manual. The other 2268 Generator has aluminum end housings which is not called out anywhere. It came off of a 340 HP '62 Corvette and was removed in 1968. It is date coded L 20 1, and does appear to have ever been taken apart. Anyone seen such a Generator.

Re: 2268 Generator
Gary,
I'd never say never, (that it couldn't have come that way from Delco) but my guess would be with Cecil. But why, on a rebuild, they would change end plates, I really don't know. I've been tracking the 2268's and 2174's since 1974--the only aberration I've seen is a black (instead of red) Delco tag on a generator that had never been touched. I've also seen a 2268 installed on an original-owner 300 hp car, too, but that would be on St. Louis' watch, not Anderson, IN and Delco.- Top
