    Build / Order Number

I'm hoping someone can provide me some information on some hand written numbers I've discovered, while removing the tar undercoating, on the interior fiberglass of my 1973 coupe. The first are located on the top of the rear storage area. They are 369437 A/C and something I can't make out. The second place is on the vertical sheet metal just behind the seats. They are 369437 A/C and what looks like PW.

I would like to know what I'm looking at and what can be gleaned from the information. Unfortunately, I do not have a tank sticker for the car.

After using a heat gun to remove the majority of tar, I only saw the numbers after I sprayed the areas with Goo Gone.

    Thanks for your help.

Not for sure, but I'm guessing your car has air conditioning and power windows ???? A/C PW.

Most likely written for line workers to identify options to be installed at the factory. Can't say for certain what the numbers are.

      Hi Robert,
When I see that number '9437' I think of '19437', the model number for a coupe; ''19467' is the model number for a convertible.
Are the numbers you're seeing linked to body style?
      Regards,
      Alan

Alan, you may be on to something. The way the numbers were written, there appears there was a space in the middle, 369 437. Maybe the 437 was an assembly line abbreviation for 19437? If so, that leaves the 369. I found a stamped date of 10-72 on the birdcage, so maybe the 3 is for model year?

        Thanks for your input. Rob

Can you get some pictures of those? I'll be restoring my '73....someday! When was your car built (trim tag)?

Because I don't have the original trim tag the only concrete information I have is the 10-72 stamped on the birdcage, date on the rear end, and the type of hood support, which is correct for an early 73. I do have some photos of the numbers I'll post shortly.

              Hi Robert,
You mentioned 10-72 stamp on the birdcage.
I rarely hear or read any mention of birdcage stamps. I did find one on the driver's-side hinge pillar on my 71. It's a few inches below the start of windshield post; seen from sitting in the drivers seat.
              My 71 was a mid-January 1971, built car.
Where did you find your stamp?
              Regards,
              Alan

                Alan,

I just looked at mine again. It is located exactly where you described, but it is actuallt 1072, no dash. Sorry for using the wrong nomenclature for where I found it. I understand there is a way to determine which week a car was produced, based on the VIN, but I haven't put any time into searching for it. My wife is anxious for me to get the body back on its frame!

369 could be your job number. Does your VIN end in "369"? Does your VIN end in "131"?

437 is assembly line shorthand for an underbody prepped for a coupe.
