    Car Shipper (Dealer Copy) Document

I thought I'd share pics of an original 63 document, the "Car Shipper (Dealer Copy)," that some might find interesting. Roy Sinor is one of the few I've spoken to who were familiar it. This document was left in the glove box of my 63 coupe when delivered, I'd guess put there before the car was delivered and never removed by the dealer. The window sticker must have been printed as one part of a multipart form, the "Car Shipper" another part of the same form. Perforations are visible at the top of the page, and like a carbon copy identical misalignment of various letters, words and the VIN on both documents are clearly visible.

Note the date at the bottom of the form, "03 22 63" (a Friday) four days earlier than my calculated build date of March 26, 1963 (a Tuesday). Roy told me he'd found this date on the "Car Shipper" was normally a few days prior to the actual build date
    .

I've got two of those from '63 fuelie cars and both have quick take off wheels noted. I also have copies of the window stickers and the quick take off wheels are not on the window stickers. The same man owned both, about 5,000 cars apart. The first was totaled while at the dealer for warranty work, the shop boy took it to lunch and rolled it three times.

In the lates seventies I went on a search for Corvette Sales Information from the previous dealer in the attic of our dealership. I was fortunate to pull 5 Car Shippers before our Service Manager at the time, purging old repair orders, threw out the rest. I have 1 65 Coupe and 4 66 Convertibles (1 shown). Attached to each Shipper is a "New Car Pre-Delivery Information and File Card". These give info including Engine Pad stamping, Key Numbers, Body Job Number, Color and Trim, date received, date delivered, and Original Owner (2 were dealer traded). It's time that these docs go to their present owners. I was thinking about running them in the information wanted section of the Driveline. Any other insight for ways to connect these documents would be appreciated. I saw that Tom Hendricks had some luck with connecting docs on another thread. If anyone can prove current ownership of these vehicles, the documents are theirs free of charge.

                    James,

Not to change the subject, but.... I've been to the dealer that your car was delivered at, about 30 years ago. It's (was) a tiny dealer in the tiny town of Hornbeak, Tn.
I think the owner told me it was the only Corvette they ever sold and if I remember correctly, the car went to a family member?

                      Hi Michael,

Thanks for posting! What a small world we live in! You have a great memory. I'm pleased to report the car is still in the family, an heirloom I own today. That Chevrolet dealership belonged to my grandfather, though 30 years ago you may have spoken to my uncle who took over the dealership about that time. My SWC was originally ordered as a demonstrator by my uncle who was a salesman in '63. In '64 he ordered a another new demonstrator as dealers did back then. (My uncle never ordered another Corvette for himself, a wedding and baby changed his lifestyle.) My father had admired the SWC while my uncle drove it, bought the car and drove it daily for many years. I inherited it after my father passed away and drove it until a baby changed my lifestyle.

Hornbeak is a very small town, one stop sign. How in the world did you find it? I know they sold more Corvettes than mine over the years but it may have been the only Corvette they ordered in '63. Buyers in that part of rural Tennessee bought sedans and trucks, not many sports cars.

I'm having the car Flight Judged in Novi. Please introduce yourself if you're attending the event.
                      Cheers,
                      JB

                        John,
Search the C2 Registry for the VIN numbers you have. You might consider posting the VIN numbers you have documents for over there, but consult with Rob Musquetere (sp?) first. He is one of the webmasters here and he is the webmaster over there.

Lots of NCRS people collect vehicle data, so an add in The Driveline would be appropriate. While it will take some time to reach print, it is low cost (actually no cost).

If the cars are in Ohio Tom is your man, and he has lots of tricks up his sleeve so contact him as well. Do anything you can to get the word out.
                        Terry

Thanks JB. It's good to hear that the car is still in the family.

I was at the dealer in about 1981? My X girlfriend (and eventual wife, for a short time) is the daughter of "used up car lot" owner and eventual mayor Bill Revell in Dyersburg, Tn, just down the road from Hornbeak.
Bill told me that there was a real small dealer in a town that almost no one knew about, just a few miles away.
The daughter and I drove over and met a few of the family members. Very nice folks. I remember hearing that they had a 1963 Corvette at one time but I didn't know it was still in the family.
I left with a carload of old GM/Chev parts that they no longer wanted/needed.
The dealer was just like it probably looked in about 1950. Nice little town.
