    1970 Radio & Clock replacement

Trying to get the car back to stock.

The car came with a 1972 AM-FM Stereo installed. Who, what, where would be my best option to trade in the 72 core to get a 70 AM-FM Stereo?

The clock looks great, just doesn't work. Attempt a rebuild myself or send it out for rebuild?

There seem to be a thousand choices for rebuilds. Best options?

    TIA,
    Mike

Best bet is to keep an eye on ebay. They pop up from time to time. My 70 has an am/fm stereo and you will be very surprised at how good it sounds with correct speakers.

I had my clock redone with quartz movement. If you have the car judged you will lose points for quartz movement but it will keep excellent time. It was one of the very few areas I did not keep OEM.

I can only speak to the clock. Being a watch collector among other pursuits, I can tell you it is no simple task to get one of these up and running. My best advice if you want to keep it mechanical is just to source out a rebuilt movement(they are out there) and just swap it out. If you want it done the mechanical redone, it will be in the 120.00 range by somebody like Corvette Central. If you go the quartz route, you can find these for usually under 80 bucks.
Be warned though, due to the engine vibration and up and down the road travel, you will not get a lot of years service from the mechanical. That being said, I replaced mine with a mechanical movement. Being a watchgeek, I just do not like the tick, tick, tick of a quartz.

I had my quartz movement replace with a NOS Borg movement by these folks.....that was about 3 years ago and it's still ticking.

I've used a few electric clocks from this supplier and recomend them heartily. Their clocks are supposedly made on the original tooling and I cannot tell them from original.

Me too - 4 years ago, same vendor. Although the car sees little use and the battery is always disconnected when not the car is not in use, the clock has kept excellent time since having it done. I'm happy...

Another happy customer of the Clock Works. I had the quartz movement in my '78 but decided to go back to the original mechanical movement. Found a "donor" on eBay and sent it off to the Clock Works for restoration...very pleased with the service and the quality of the clock.
