Original power antenna mast ?

My power antenna assembly gears on my 65 are shot. I am replacing the assembly, but am told many repops dont go all the way down, ie., the first mast doesnt retract.

Does anyone know of a source for correct power antennas ?

Check with Greg Thompson, gthompson49@kc.rr.com. He restores antennas for this era and just got a Top Flight with his '66 at the Joplin Regional. He's a KC Chapter member.

Ron, this might not be what you asked, but here is my experence with 66 PAs. Repop power antennas may not go all the way down, but neither did the originals. I recently rebuilt mine (new mast) to the original height as specified in the 66 JG pg 70. The antenna should be approximately 13.5" when retracted, approximately 50" fully extended with the lower mast section at 12". My repop which came on the car had very few similarities to an original. Incorrect height, wrong tip, no indented rings on the mast sections, wrong chrome nut, and not even close on the under fender portion of the antenna. In addition, the fiberglass inner fender had been re drilled to move the original mounting bracket so the aftermarket antenna would fit properly. If possible get your original rebuilt. Hope this information helps!

Nothing about the repo's is even close to being similar to the originals, including the diameter of the mast. Contact Greg and have it done correctly.

Believe it or not! The 4 section telescoping antenna part was used in a non automotive, non radio, application to support a wire coil in an electrical/electronic pullout drawer. The three larger sections were identical to the Corvette antenna. The smaller top section was different, but was not needed for my repair. I added the indented reliefs using a tubing cutter with the cutting wheel removed and replaced with a flat washer. It worked quite well. Sorry, I do not know the source of the part.
