    L36 Before and After

Finally getting close to my first drive in 18 months in my '66 L36. Thought I'd share some before and after shots of the now-de-bubbafied engine compartment.

I hope you can tell which is which .

Nice work. Going thru the same process on my 70. Sometimes things can make you just shake your head.

Excellent job! Went through a similar restoration of my L36 recently. What source did you use for your braided wires? I used Lectirc Limited dated wires for judging, but switched back to my older service replacements for daily driving because of durability concerns (as noted in the archives).

Thanks for everyone's compliments! I will pass them on to the expert who did the real work on the project (and will gladly recommend him to anyone via PM, if desired. Chicago area.). My skill is limited to projects much smaller than this entire engine & engine compartment restoration.

He used Lectric Limited wires & I intended to use them for driving, too. But now that I note the reliability concerns, I might change my mind.

Nice clean up. What PCV valve did you use?

Getting back to your question, Ron, I went with the 736 pcv valve based on my late build date of July 7. Am I correct?

There aren't too many people talking about this, but the Bow Tie 390 HP survivor had this at the national and my opinion is the 691 valve remained in use for the 390 HP engine. Later on in service it was replaced by the 736 valve, but we'd need to see 66, 67 and 68 dated service catalogs to make the determination when that change occurred.

The CV-691 valve, aka GM #6421981, was replaced for SERVICE in July, 1969 by the CV-736C, aka GM #6423695. However, the "long numbers" are SERVICE part numbers and, as has been explained previously, PRODUCTION and SERVICE "long numbers" usually differ for these PCV valves.
