72 sb base motor water pump 330813

Car with a May 15th build date with a flat boss on top of pump. Can anyone tell me what months this pump was used on corvettes in 1972.

    Ed,

As discussed earlier today, we don't really know how much 330813 (the correct number). Previous inquiries didn't turn up much. My friend's 72 built mid-May has a 3991399, yet yours does not. I suspect usage is quite low.

I took some excellent photos of that original example this afternoon as I went and spoke with the gentleman after you did. I'll try and post them soon.

I think the earliest that the 330813 would have been used is April, 1972. That also jives with information in Alan Colvin's book. However, I think that for some period of time it's likely that both the 3991399 and 330813 were used. That period was probably April, 1972 until the end of production 1972.

During the above period there were probably both part number patterns being used for castings at Saginaw. Most likely, Flint could machine either casting with little, if any, change of tooling. Just when the drilling and tapping of the bypass began, I do not know. Corvette did not require this feature.

The date falls within the period I would expect for the "flat top" 330813 and obviously indicates that this casting would have been available for use on a late 1972 Corvette. The only other application that used this casting was MD/HD trucks.

Patrick and Joe, thanks for the information and the pictures. Patrick it was good seeing you and spending some time with you at Bloomington. I posted this to see if there was any information form others about this fairly unfamilar pump. I will try to get the casting information from the pump while it is on the car, but if I cant I will remove the pully after the National. As I plan on driving the 72 to the National I dont want to take it apart before the drive. Thanks again for all your help.
If anyone else has data regarding this pump, I would appreciale some feedback.
