Re: Route 66 is back on TV
Hi Ralph:
It was certainly my favorite show when growing up. They filmed a couple of episodes in Ft Myers, Fl and I skipped school to go down and watch production. There was no way I would have missed it. I remember there were two identical cars "63s" brought in on a truck. I finally turned those dreams some years later into reality getting my first Vette in 1973, a slightly used 71.- Top

Re: Route 66 is back on TV
I have most episodes on DVD, but good to hear it is on Cable too. I lived in New Mexico along Route 66, and as far as I know they never shot anything here. In fact, if you look at most locales, they are usually anywhere BUT Route 66.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: Route 66 is back on TV
I drove Route 66 all the way out to California back in 2000. I started in Mass and picked up 66 near Oklahoma. When I got to New Mexico I was having car problems and was stuck in Grants, New Mexico for a week. Pretty boring town. Loved the show growing up and am sure that played a major role in my Corvette addiction.- Top

Re: Route 66 is back on TV
Those guys and their 'Vette fueled many 'Vette dreams among the youth of the day. It took me a long while to get one, but it was worth the wait.

Re: Route 66 is back on TV
They filmed a number of episodes over the years in Arizona. My favorite is in Phoenix/Scottsdale, where the end of the episode shows them backing out of the GRAVEL "U" hotel drive, headed north on the gravel road - 61 or 62 vintage - my friends, the hotel is the Safari and the road is Scottsdale Road..........- Top

Re: Route 66 is back on TV
Nope we for sure didn't stay in Scottsdale. I am not sure (now some years later) what town we were in, but it was more remote than Scottsdale. I am pretty sure we did stay in Scottsdale once upon a time, but it was a Best Western.Terry- Top

Re: Route 66 is back on TV
"George Maharis reported in a 1986 Nick at Nite interview that people often ask him about "the red Corvette." According to Maharis, the Corvette was never red. (The misconception may partially stem from the box illustration on the official board game, released by Transogram in 1962, which showed Tod and Buz in a red-colored model.) It was light blue the first season, and fawn beige for the second and third seasons. Both colors were chosen to photograph well in black and white, but the show's cinematographer complained that the powder blue car reflected too much light. The Corvette was replaced with a newer model annually by series' sponsor General Motors but the show itself never mentioned or explained the technicality. The model update made a particular splash in the third season when the new Corvette introduced the then revolutionary design change of headlights that inverted into the hoodline when not in use. Virtually every motorcar used in street scenes were different variations of Chevrolets."
Here are some links with speculation and facts about what happened to them:
