I thought one of our California members had one of these cars, but as I recall his is a red 1964. Patrick Collins as I remember. There was a story on the car in The Restorer some years back. Maybe my memory is bad because I can't be the only one to remember this.

Terry, Patrick Collins has a super early 65 that was the last used in the 66 series, 2 last ones, but were not shown. Martin Milner was at a Chapter meet in SoCal and looked at the car, had good memories.

Drove the 64 over 5000 miles to three Regionals and the San Jose National, one dust storm and 40 lbs of bugs!

Thank you Dan. I was at least close. I was a little surprised no one mentioned Pat's car yet when folks began asking about cars used in the series.
Has anyone considered trying to get Martin Milner or George Maharis to attend the National convention next year in San Diego.
Working on Martin Milner, he lives here in Carlsbad. Rob Myrick had his Grandson at his school this year, we will try to make contact with Martin for 2012. Would be great to have him at the Convention.

Considering they used a dozen or more cars in the series, and the series was so iconic, and that every other form of "rarity" is documented and advertized in auctions, sales, etc., I am amazed hardly anyone has ever heard of one of the original Route 66 cars being in existance. That seems very odd, what in the world did happen to them after filming? Did they all (or almost all) vanish?

It appears they went back to GM after they were used in the shows. They were probably sold as "lightly used" cars with no special significance at the time. They probably just evolved into relative obscurity for the most part, like any used Corvette of the time.

Very possible alright. But with Roy's new service of dealer delivery data on those year's VINs, maybe they can be uncovered if it is known what dealer delivery code they carried. I wonder what GM supplied Corvettes were coded as? Was it a dealer code in Detroit, or some other special code?
I met Martin Milner in early 1962, while he was filming the Route 66 episode “Between Hello and Goodbye” at Pacific Ocean Park. He was on the set solo as Maharis was in the hospital suffering from a bout with hepatitis. The area of the Ocean Sky Ride was roped off, but during a break in filming, we tried to get permission from security to meet him, with no luck. But the girl who I was with asked one of the directors and he let her in. Then I got waived over and I got his autograph. Really a nice guy..
POP was just a short distance south of the Santa Monica Pier, just two blocks down from the bluffs where Santa Monica Boulevard intersects Ocean Ave…the official west end of Route 66. Ironically, this episode is but one of a few that were shot anywhere near the Mother Road.
Two studio corvettes in the parking lot…automatics with fawn beige paint.
Corvette News Volume 5, Number 5 has a Route 66 article that tells quite a bit about the filming of the program. The article ends with George Maharis posing with "his" 1962, black with red interior, 360HP, and 4:11's
I have been watching the show every week day and they are into the 1962 model year, some of the shows have them driving a 1962 Fuel Injected car and some are a non Fuel car. Why the change i wonder??
