Can anyone recommend a transmission shop in the dallas Tx area or surrounding area that is familiar with the c1's and thier transmission? Went for a ride this morning and everything seemed normal. However, when I was coming up the driveway (long driveway) I shifted from 2Nd to 1st and it would not go into gear. I have reverse and 3rd and 4th gear, just not 1st or 2nd. It seems like the shifter has free play when you attempt to select the lower gears, seems normal in reverse and the higher gears. Thank you in advance...

Take a look under the car - sounds like the 1-2 rod from the shifter to the rear lever on the side cover has come adrift; should be a simple fix to reconnect it.- Top

Re: 62 Transmission Problem
John, I will check this when I can back down to my farm/shop, which is 2 hours south of Dallas. I had to leave the car down there, due to the transmission problem. I was preparing the car for a local show in that area. If this is a simple fix Great... I will not have to trailer the car back to Dallas for costly transmission work. I will make sure to let you know how this turns out. Thank You!!- Top

Re: 62 Transmission Problem
Elwin,
Is it an original vette shifter?
The reason I ask, is I had an aftermarket Hurst shiftier and one of the stop adjustment bolts loosened and moved in preventing the shifter from traveling all the way.

Re: 62 Transmission Problem
John, I was able to get the 62 on ramps and jack stands this weekend and the problem was as you stated. The retaining clip that holds the 1-2 rod onto the shifter linkage was missing. This allowed the shifting rod to slip out of the linkage assembly. I was able to use a hitch pin clip to repair it for now and was able to take it for a road test and it shifted great!! Hopefully, I can find the OEM clips so I can install them at a later date. Thanks Again, Elwyn- Top
