Weak headlight question

My 65 has a weak shining right side headlamp. The left is 100% brightness.I replaced the headlamp, same result. High beam lamps are fine.

Before I check for a cruddy lamp contact surface in the connector, is it possible to have a faulty ground or short affect one headlamp only ?

Sounds like a simple connector problem at the lamp.

Another possibility is lamp is about to blow out. Is the low beam lamp dark inside?

Since you eliminated the bulb as the problem (by replacing it) I would first check connectors, specifically grounds. Then check for power, etc.

Cleaned the connectors, still the same problem. Now I get a slight bulb lighting in the high beam lamps.

Sounding like a faulty headlight switch ?

Ron, Try wiggling the connectors ar firewall, and I think theres one in front of rad. support. and watch the light to see if it brightens.and there is one coming out of each headlight.

Ron,
when a lamp burns 1/2 brightness it is usually in series with another 12V item such as another bulb.

The problem is usually lack of ground and the affected bulb seeks the ground thru the filiment of another bulb causing a series circuit that devides the voltage in half.

If it is the 3 prong light then check the ground on the 3rd prong because it may be lighting both dim & bright in the same lamp which will only give each 6volts.

A loose connection was the problem. The cord coming out of the right side bucket is making a loose contact. When I jiggle the cord the lamp brightens right up. However, I noticed spliced into the cord is a small connector that is free. should this be screwed down as a ground connector ?

Ron, I think the cord just routes through the headlamp shaft. and connects externally.
