Things I learned today:
1) Thinking I was smart and trying to use FelPro 1630 valve cover gaskets, (because they were recommended), with my original BB valve covers and and "RBW" bolts. Not so much; the bolts are too short for the thicker gaskets.
2) The original/correct gaskets with the silver seal work just fine; "no runs, no drips, no errors".
Finally, 3) sure is a lot easier if you just stick with original.

Yes, the original style gaskets will work just fine to begin with. However, over the long haul they won't be as durable and as leak-resistant as the Fel-Pro corkprene with steel insert (i.e. 1630). Believe me, they don't make the much more expensive 1630 because the less expensive stock-type work just as well.

And, yes, the thicker gaskets do require slightly longer bolts. So, it comes down to what's more important----a more leak free engine or original headmarks on the bolts?

RBW head mark bolts I had no problems with mine using the repro silver painted cork.
