    67 headlight switch question

We were having some issues with the headlight switch. The rheostat seemed to be dirty since we could not get the gauges to dim properly. Also when turned to what would be the max on position the dome light and under dash lights will not come on. We were able to clean the rheostat but the dome light still will not come on. Is there a trick to making this work. Am I missing something? Is the switch dead?

    Thanks for the help

Charles, sounds like your on the right track, the rheostat may have a open somewhere, or the copper contact part is not touching at some spot on the rheostat when turning. The dome lamp part is a solid copper contact at the end of the rheostat.

Thanks Edward! I think we are going in the right direction. We have the dim function working properly but cant seem to figure out why the dome light function isnt working properly. The tab looks like it is making proper contact but we cant seem to make this work.

Here are a couple o picture of the switch we pulled out of our car and a new one. They look quite different and the new one will not fit due to the size being larger. Any thoughts?

          Thanks again for the help.

            Hi Tim,

Yeah the dome light comes on as it should when the doors are opened. Thats the only way I know to tell if its good?
            Thanks,
            Chuck

              Charles,

That replacement switch is correct for 64-67 and it will fit. It's tight but will fit. Give it another shot!

Chuck..I had the same problem and the contact was insolated. When you turn the switch to the dome light position look for the contacts and clean them with a contact file..Bill

Someone correct me if I am wrong but in 1967 the H/L switch when pulled the first notch for parking lights front and rear lit and second notch for H/L the front parking lights are not lit.

The replacement switch has the front lit all the time when in use.
