    68/69 Rear Caliper Armor

For 68/69 cars rear calipers do your steel brake lines to calipers have armor or not originals or know originals please?

The original rear brake lines on my September, 1969 built car were NOT armored. The ones on there now, though, are armored.

Feb'68 build - no armor on the lines, and they look like their 40+ years old, but can't be sure.

I would like to thank Paul for posing this question to the membership. This is an item we need to get a grip on, as we try to finish up the new 68/69 JG.

As is typical, the membership is instrumental in defining the finished product.

          Regards,

I cannot claim to know if my 68 had the original lines when i bought it, but it was armored and by all accounts did not reveal anything to suggest it had been replaced. I am curious as well to learn if any 68 survivors have armor.

              Re: 68/69 Rear Caliper Armor

My Jan 69 car had the armor and I believe they were original when I replaced them some 25 years ago. I think that the BB cars because of the rear sway bar used the armor where as the SB cars without the rear sway bar did not.

This was talked about a few years back and I think a P/N search at the time was inconclusive but maybe someone can check again. Do you have your parts book handy Joe?

The photo you have is showing the parking brake cable shielding. My question is about the steel line that connects to the caliper and the rubber hose on the trailing arm.

                Greg

That is what we hope to find out but at this late date not many cars have the original lines

My 69 has the armor on the steel line, not the whole line just the end that goes to the caliper. Built 12/11/69 (has rear sway bar)

My 74 small block, no sway bar, has what I think are original lines. They have no armor.

                        _Sorry Paul for the confusion_

Not sure if this is simialr to what Ralph described but there was a small section closest to the calipers, you can see where I cut it off in the pic by the sway bar link. L68 3/8/68

A parts catalog won't be of any help here. The brake lines were never available in SERVICE.

Just crawled under my original owner 68 and verified there are only bare steel brake lines connecting into the rear calipers. I know the steel brake lines are the real deal, the rubber brake lines they connect to are replacements.
