    67 Fan Shroud Color

I'm pretty sure the fan shroud on a 67 327/300hp car should just be natural fiberglass, but what colors of fiberglass? I am seeing a basic gray, but then some regions seems to have a pinkish color to them as well. Thanks.

That looks like what I expected the fiberglass to look. Would or could the pink I am seeing be some kind of repair fiberglass that was used or do some of the repro shrouds have multiple colors in them? Thanks.

Here is what I have. Looks pretty much the same except for the "pink" areas of coloration. Repair?

          Hi Kirk,

My fan shroud was painted black at some point. If that was the only problem, I would just remove the paint, so that it would be bare black (dark gray) fiberglass as it should be for 1967, but the bottom section of my fan shroud was cut out for some reason, and then replaced with a sheet of aluminum.

Based on the NOS sections of fan shrouds that I have seen in the correct dark gray color for late 1966-1967, they look about the same as the bare glass of your tire tub and lid/cover (could be they were both made by the same company).

I'm not sure about the pink-colored areas, but the inside of the top section in picture #3 has what is probably some kind of fiberglass mat grafted onto the fiberglass and painted over, indicating repair. In picture #4, near the pink-colored area, is also an area that is darker than the rest of the shroud. This area appears to be missing the off-white hair-like strands that are typical of GM fiberglass, and which are visible in the surrounding undamaged areas.

I would guess that the pink-colored areas are some kind of bondo or filler, or just fiberglass resin that was not tinted to match the surrounding fiberglass. They did a lot better job on yours than was done on mine. The aluminum sheet on mine didn't blend in with the fiberglass very well at all. I don't think mine would pass judging...

Forgot to ask, is the upper fan shroud bolt (picture #3) a "WB" headmark bolt? It looks like it has the depression typical of WB headmark bolts. Does the top bolt headmark match the other four main shroud bolts and the two side bolts for the C60 extension ring, or is it a mixed set?

The AIM shows the upper fan shroud bolt (UPC 11-13-A5, Item 12, GM #122007, referencing previous page) is the same part number as the four side-tab shroud attachment bolts (UPC 11-13-A4, Item 12), and the two shroud extension ring bolts (C60-B2.5, Item 2). I think "WB" is one of the correct headmarks for the 122007 bolt, along with "RSC" and others.

              Kirk,

Dark gray. If you poll ebay you can see a couple of them. The ones that are light gray are from the 80's. Pink - not sure.
Since they were not painted - you have to get this pretty close with any repairs needed.

              Scott,
WB is a popular head mark, RSC another for the 66 67.

                Kirk,
your shroud was repaired with some sort of glass and filler, definitely not as St. Louis built it. If you are chasing TF points, you'll have to replace or do a much better repair with tinted resin/hardener as well as get rid of the excess matting on the inner surface of the shroud.
