    1986 A/C System



    The shop manual calls for 6oz of oil to be added to the system. The manual also indicates oil should be added to the evaporator, condenser, and dryer bottle.

    My question is can I put 3oz in the compressor and 3oz in the dryer bottle? Or do I put 3oz in the evaporator and 1oz in the condenser and 1oz in the compressor, and 1oz in the dryer bottle?

    Also I have aftermarket A/C hoses that I purchased with the old aftermarket compressor that i am replacing. Will those hoses work with the new GM compressor? The old aftermarket compressor had O-rings installed, (there were machined O-ring grooves in the compressor body). The new compressor comes with new O-rings seals that have a metal reinforcing ring, will these work with the aftermarket hoses?

    The part number for the new A/C Compressor is 88964869 compressor kit, A/C R4

      I purchased a bottle of GM PAG oil this afternoon for use in the compressor.

        I have done my reasearch, and the oil i purchased from GM is compatible for all R134 Systems. Also my system was flushed before and converted over to R134A, when the crappy Compressor I bought, that was using R134A crapped out and thats why im changing it. The Oil I purchased is GM part#12378526, Which is PAG oil like I said. Plus i flushed the system out over the weekend to ensure all old oil was removed and any trash or dirt was removed also. The oil i purchased is for use in New GM compressors.

        All I wana know is how much of the 6oz of oil thats required per the shop manual goes into each component on the AC system, like i asked in my first question i posted! Does all 6oz go in the compressor?? Im not sure and the shop manual is very confusing!

        I have all the right pieces to put it back together and the system is clean and the proper oil and refrigerant will be used (R-134A).

          When I rebuilt my A/C system last summer I put 2 oz in the condenser, 2 oz in the compressor, and 2 oz in the accumulator (dryer). I did not put any oil in the evaporator as it is a little hard to get to. Additionally, I dipped the oriface tube filter in oil before I installed it. You should coat all o-rings with oil when you install them. Finally, you need to make sure that your new compressor does not already have oil in it. Some new compressors come with oil and some don't. You need to make sure so you don't over fill the system with oil.

          You should use the o-rings that came with the new compressor and not try to install any o-rings which were prevously used or for a different model compressor.
