    Wayne,

    My 1966 Corvette (Feb. 66) had a "7282156", "466505" (1965, 5th week) speaker. I bought the car in 1979 and assume the speaker was original but anything can happen in 13 years. You could actually find Corvettes in the junk yards back in the 1960's and 1970's.

Also believe they came without the choke coil, which had to be transferred from the original. Typical factory production used the ....156, as shows in the AIM's. IMHO, there was no special shallow speaker for air cars, with the magnet turned right angle from the long dimension of the 6" x 9" speaker.

      My early '65 air coupe has a ...156 with code 4664xx (last 2 figures are almost obliterated). I've owned for 31 years and believe it to be original; the cone protector fabric is rotting to the touch.

      To all who are considering a ...256 shallow speaker, "special for C60 cars" spend your $$$ as you wish.

      Here's a few pics of eBay units I've collected over tha past decade; first is '63 Wonderbar car (242 date); 2nd is '63 AM/FM (309 date); third not identified but probably early '66 (528 date), now that we know the date code system, which seems to match seller claims.

      Here's another speaker part # link; C2's speakers are discussed down a bit

      The shallow A/C speaker is an urban legend started at the FL meet in the late 80's.

        Just took the entire dash out of my 65 ac Roadster 1 owner (deceased). Car vin 19371, speaker has a Triangle stamped in ink then stamped 7282156 then another triangle, below that there is 466514 stamped in ink, which if the dating theory is true equates to a mid April or so 65 speaker. Car was shipped June 08.

          David,
          My car is an early production 1967(Sept 1966) So the 466717 date code does not line up with the production date. I purchased the car in the summer of 1969. I do not recall replacing the speaker but I do recall in the late 70's taking out the ac box, radio and glove box to replace the leaking heater core. Maybe I replaced the speaker at that time? Time has a way of fading memories. What happened before I purchased the car I don't know but it would seem unlikely that the speaker would have been replaced during the first three years of the cars life.

            Re: 67 radio speaker with a/c

            I had a chance to check the speaker in my January 11, 1967 coupe today. It has the 7282156 part number (with triangle before and after), and just below it is 466651, over "10 OHM".

            651 = 1966, 51st week

            Original speaker in a factory C60 car, so it will be interesting to find out if it's the "shallow" type or the "regular" type speaker.
