    pulley grooves

when painting a semi gloss black pulley, do you paint the grooves or mask them off for the belt,
if the grooves were painted, would the belts glaze over with paint

The grooves are painted on original pullies which were originally painted. The paint will wear off fairly soon, though.

      Paul,

I've had belts glaze and squeal from new paint in pulley grooves. I solved that by masking them using the old belt wrapped tight around the groove and held in place with vice grips. Use the other end of the belt to hang the pulley for painting. It's very quick compared to taping the groove and allows the outer edge of the pulley to be painted.
