ID mystery brake park on '66

    Good evening all,

Take a look at this image. Let me know what this brake regulator might be. Attached on the lower inside of drivers side frame right below master cylinder. Brake line leads from m/c through this fixture to rear of car. Never have seen one

Looks like an old Micro Brake? Lock? that was used as an auxilary parking brake. I installed quite a few of them on trucks in the '60's

You activate the lock, apply the brakes, and voila! your rear brakes will hold (hopefully) the car assuming you have no leaks. Not to be depended on when leaving your vehicle out of gear, but better'n nuttin'

Dick, when it's activated, is the solenoid always powered? Seems you can't use it when the car sits for a long time........battery killer?

To deactivate the lock, you cut the switch. Yes Rich, it cannot be left on for long periods of time with the engine off.

Look in their catalog, they have a mechanical lock that you can leave on forever. Can't think of a good reason to do that unless you want to use it as an anti theft device.

I'll bet it was for theft because back in the day vettes were a target.

Back in the day the thieves had every alarm figured out so I put a shunt across my coil with a switch under the dash where it couldn't be seen, just touched. the shunt was spliced in the wiring and wrapped so it couldn't be seen.

It worked like a charm but I had window damage twice. Another time the police found the car 2 blocks away where it had been pushed and I had rear bumper damage. I found a jumper wire from the batt to the coil when I looked under the hood.

The only way to jump the coil was to disconnect the wires.
I found the battery almost dead a few times because they tried to start it and couldn't.

Then I got lazy and ran in the shop to pick up my paycheck and didn't think I needed to flip the switch because I parked right by the rear door.

                  They got it.
