Terry,
I know the owner of the red car and will be getting in touch with him. I was pretty much all over that one too but it did not make it to the lifts so hard to say what the underside looks like.

I tried my best to get equal time on the lifts for everyone, but we were in the enviable position of having way too many real nice Corvettes for the number of lifts we had -- even with three lifts. And I only had two days to get 'er done.

Gary,
Terry is getting in touch with the Blue car's owner to see if there will be assistance with information sharing.
On the red car, John Ballard used to own the car, and I know the current owner hasn't had the car that long. The red car is a 22k vin, very late, while the blue car was 14k. They had significant differences as they seem to bridge a number of 66 mid year changes.
Both were very similar - from the top side in what one could expect to see underneath; extrapolating of course in that we did get to see the blue car up on the lift. Terry, thanks for arranging that, makes the inspection and instruction process much more valuable. Where was Michael in all that

Visit most Regional, any National or even the "other" Corvette show in Illinois and you'll see him. Those of us who are regulars to in-person events (as well as the "virtual" discussion board of course) know of him and have judged with him.
Believe it or not, many of the NCRS's "characters" don't visit here.

Since he only goes to Regionals and Nationals in Illinois and I only go to Regionals and Nationals in No. California, it appears we will never cross paths.

No, he goes to almost all Regionals, all NCRS Nationals, and ALSO (not just) that "other" show in Illinois. I have a photo of him in CA in 2002 at Monterey as proof if you wish, and I'd guarantee he was in San Jose 2009 based on photos I saw and will be in San Diego 2012.
He's also a new Region Director for the NCRS.

Re: 1966 Frame Stencil Research; Help from '66 owners
Hello All,
I sent photos of my frame rail stencils to Gary in an email for his study and the question came up about AOS bodied cars.
Neither Gary or myself know the answer to that one, but does anyone know if a St. Louis built body or a AOS built body have any variants in the number of days between the day the frame was stenciled and married to the body?
And.... just when were the frames installed - before the trim tag date or after?
As always, thanks for the help and THANK YOU Gary.- Top

The body source (Smith/St Louis) wouldn't have made any difference on the frame date. All frames were dated and fed into the system randomly and eventually met the body in the same location in the plant, no matter what the body source. Frames were not body source specific.
The trim tag would have been installed on the body several hours, or even one work day, prior to the body installation on the frame.- Top

could
However, from what Michael says, this would mean that the stencil dates would have to be dated prior to the trim tag date and not the production date regardless if it an AOS or St. Louis build body. Is this correct?
Another question about the frame manufacture, did they work weekends, double shifts etc?
As always, thanks for the help.Attached Files- Top

I should have added the fact that the body date system doesn't work for Smith bodies when comparing it to frame dates. The Smith folks added the trim tag and date when they made the body and that could have been a week or two before the completed body entered production at the St louis plant.
The frame was probably dated and shipped a day or two before it went on the line at St Louis.- Top

So if the birthday of Kurt's car is 3-25, a frame stencil date of 3-22 would make sense. Yes?
