    Question on Flight judging-Undercarriage

I am going to my first flight judging in the fall and have a general question that I did not see in any of the manuals.

Given the many details that need to be looked at under the car, such as transmission stampings, starter, etc. Are cars put on a lift to make it easy or is everything done on the ground?

    Thanks,

    Tony

Flight Judging is done on the ground. Bowtie/Crossed Flags Judging is done on a lift.

      Tony,

Chassis Judges will crawl under your car as best they can. Both Judges will probably spend approximately 10-15 minutes laying on their backs looking/studying the underneath (both sides, front and rear) of your car.

That's one way they'll determine if the ride height is sufficient. Just kidding, but it is an indicator. Obviously fat guys can't get very far underneath.

Relax and enjoy your first Judging experience. Always recommend downloading the Judging Sheets from the website and going through the Judging process with the Judging Reference Manual. You should know your car better than the Judges and they shouldn't tell you anything you don't already know. https://www.ncrs.org/membership/scoresheets.html

also depends on what you have. a c3 is tough to look under because it is so low to the ground. you are limited on what you can see on and around the transmition and drive shaft.

i have been under a c1 reading numbers on various parts.

          Folks,

Thanks for all of the info. I have a hard enough time looking at numbers when the car was on my lift with a flashlight and magnifying glass, so I was curious how it was done.

I do have the judging sheets as well as the JM, so I have been going through the car doing a self assessment.

By the way, it is for a 1962.

Thanks again for all of the help,

          Tony

As Dr Gary says, Pray for a pair of very fat judges or should we say well rounded judges and you want it judged right after a big pig cookout lunch. If I was a judge and I had to judge it (6ft 300 lbs) I can tell you right now it would pass. Just kidding! Mike
