    1972 A/C compressor housing

I just had the A/C compressor rebuilt. It is completely stripped and ready for paint. Black is the color, but is it a flat, semi gloss or gloss finish. I looked in the TIMJG but could not find anything on the finish of the a/c compressor.

I checked my JG, too, and you are right......no mention of paint so I guess you can paint it any color you like. Or even chrome it. Seriously, those I have seen and including the ones of my '70 and '66 Impala has been low gloss black and no shinier than semi-gloss.

Does anyone have a picture with good resolution of a correctly repainted compressor?

Not to bee too picky, but why not a picture of an original paint compressor?

Terry, that's not being picky....that's being realistic.

Jerome, the original compressor in my '72 was low gloss black, just like the one in Kevin's photo.

Just what I had in mind. Recreating a reproduction just winds you up with garbage. Actually a few other terms come to mind, but this is a family site.

                  Thanks Calvin & Kevin.

How does the paint finish of the compressor compare to the a/c brackets and the a/c pulley?

I believe the TIMJG says semi-gloss black on the brackets and is silent on the pulley as it is on the compressor. I would appreciate your input on how the finishes compare.

I checked some photos, and the brackets and pulley appear to have the same low gloss as the compressor. The degree of sheen is perhaps slightly less than the typical 'low gloss' you see today.
