    Front grill painting technique

I just got my front grills for my 72 back from the chrome shop. Now I need to paint the areas between the grill. Has anyone figured out the best way to paint the grill while leaveing the front edges of the grill chrome?

    Thanks

Scott I've heard some people mask off the front edges and paint, but they usually add that it's very tedious. I painted my 70's grill and then used a razor blade to cut the paint away from the front edges before the paint had really hardened, and it was pretty easy.

Scott, I took some old pinstripping tape that I had and used that, It does take a little time, bring them inside and sit at the kitchen table with a towel down, or if you have a work bench with a stool, easier on the back that way, it can take about 35-40 minutes .

Scott be sure to use some self ecthing primer on the chrome areas that are to be painted, Or the paint will flake off.

Spray them from the rear, as originally done and minimal taping will be required for accurate look.

I did mine using a foam. I sprayed them from the back while lightly pressing them in to the foam. This method worked very very well. I had a little touch up to remove some over spray with thinner.

Remember that an area around the parking lamp is black. I did use tape here and did the black first. There is a thread on the board somewhere with good pictures.

You may want to use a scotchbrite pad and etching primer on some areas. Just make sure to tape off areas that you do not want to scratch with the pad.
