Door Hinge Shims: What is the correct original finish?

My original '67 coupe door hinge shims look like natural unfinished steel, but that's after being cleaned on a bench-grinder brass wire-wheel.

Are original door hinge shims natural, cadmium, zinc or black phos?

      Scott,
My 63 & 67 were natural and I couldn't stand the fact that they would rust when the car is washed so I cad plated one set and used a thin primer after powder blasting on the other set.

They are hidden but I HATE rust.

        Ed and Dom,

Thanks very much for the replies. I haven't sent any of my hardware out for replating yet, and needed the shims to test fit the doors to the body yesterday.

I might try a thin coat of primer on them, since I don't care much for rust either
